Excellent response. I plan to write more extensively on this subject. In the meantime, I recommend Karen Brodkin's book - How Jews Became White Folks & What That Says About Race in America. (Rutgers U Press 1998). I haven't finished it myself yet, but her basic thesis is that the perception of Jews changed from other-than-white to White in the postwar period, when opportunities for advancement opened up to them, which were denied those considered "Black."
