Here in Los Angeles, we had the California Eagle, founded in 1879, but unlike Afro, not still in operation. The photo collection of the California Eagle, and the papers of Charlotta Bass, the activist owner and editor for most of its tenure, are available at the Southern California Library for Social Studies and Research.
