I agree with your political analysis, but I am disturbed by the taco metaphor. I love tacos, having lived all my life in what was once Aztlan. They are a genuine indigenous and working-class food, which go back thousands of years. A hand-made corn tortilla can hold the "middle" without falling apart, and in the right hands, deliver a tasty and nutritious meal to the those who need it. But ever since Mexico stopped regulating the price of tortillas (I used to buy them for about a nickel there), the people who need it cannot get enough. It is the corporate American knock-offs, using wheat or mono-crop corn from patented-seeds, which have made the taco fall apart.

Like the working-class, a strong and proud tortilla will hold everything else together.
