It gets even more complicated. While you note the uneasy relation between Chinese and Blacks in this country, there has also been a not-insignificant mixing - including my in-laws. I recommend reading John Jung's book - Chopsticks in the Land of Cotton (Yin & Yang Press 2008). The divisions also go both ways. For example, the Afro-American League in Los Angeles, forerunner to our NAACP, originally jumped on the quite-large anti-Asian bandwagon in the early 20th Century.
