No, Bill Gates did not "give us the personal computer. " I was using computers, personal and otherwise, long before he came on the scene. Gates modified an existing operating system and then made a deal with IBM to use it on their entry into the personal computer market. Essentially, he tagged on to an existing monopoly to make his own monopoly, for something someone else developed.
Steve Jobs did not "give us the smartphone" either. He may have had a few good ideas, but the actual hardware and software was designed by others and manufactured by underpaid workers in other countries.
What about the people who work dangerous and underpaid jobs to physically make the computer (phone, tablet or whatever - they are all forms of computers) you are using right now to view this? Why aren't the people who do real work, essential to society, paid in accordance with their contribution?
