"Solidarity is the consciousness of the common interest, and the actions which follow from that consciousness."
- Ricardo Flores Magon
I know I've repeated this quote many times from the "truly radical" precursor of the Mexican Revolution, but I believe it is the core principal of the religious solidarity we need.
The "interpersonal connection" you promote leads to that consciousness. We should all (not just "white" folks) try to explore outside the perspective we were raised with, and connect with people outside of our "comfort zone." We should try to see the world through the perspective of the other, even (especially) those we are opposed to. Just as our second eye gives us depth perception, each additional perspective we can look through opens up more of the universe to us.
