This reminds me of a terrible movie. In 2005 they did a remake of the classic movie Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. The 2005 remake switched the premise, with the Black woman bringing home her White boyfriend to her parents. The movie Guess Who was terrible on many levels, but one line sticks out in my memory, and I think is apropos here.
In the middle of an argument, the White fiancee tells his girlfriend that "I don't care what color you are" (or something to that effect). How could he not care about an important part of the woman he claims to love?
Now, pigmentation may be less than a centimeter thick, but its affect on how that person is treated in society (especially ours) runs deep. If you love someone, every part of them should matter very much to you.
