Or should we be seeking our commonality, trying to look through the other's eyes? Personally, I subscribe to the view of Ricardo Flores Magon, the Oaxacan who started the Mexican Revolution from exile in Los Angeles:

Solidarity is the consciousness of the common interest, and the actions which follow from that consciousness.
