Yes, Italians, Spanish and Mexicans have all been considered as a "race" in America at some point. Our first immigration law was directed at the "Chinese" as a race, not as a "nationality." Some of my old family records show them as the "Hebrew" or "Russian" race. The restrictive covenant on my home says nobody can live here other than the "White or Caucasian race." What is the difference? And who are these "Black" people you claim to speak for? Does that include people who look "white" but are actually descended from Africans brought here as slaves (such as Obama's mother)?
If this all sounds confusing, it is because "race" does not exist. But racism does exist. “Race” is about whatever the people doing the racist acts define it to be. To paraphrase Humpty Dumpty from Lewis Carrol’s Alice Through the Looking Glass:
“Race means whatever I choose it to mean – nothing more and nothing less.”
The Nazis chose to define race by Jewish heritage. In other places and times, race is defined by the color of one’s skin, the slant of one’s eyes, or some other artificial division of people. Instead of a Humpty-Dumpty argument about what is "race" we should be discussing how to stop racism itself - by anybody, to anybody.
