You should read Charles Beard's 1913 book - An Economic Interpretation of the Constitution of the United States. Backed up by detailed statistics, he sets out precisely the points you raise here. Many conservatives have attacked his data, but none have been able to prove his basic theory of how the economics of the "Founding Fathers" forged the Constitution.
